Guntersville , Alabama is a small Southern town located on beautiful Lake Guntersville.  BPA was hired to create a master plan to revitalize the downtown and waterfront areas and create a plan to connect the two.   The Master Plan calls for several cosmetic changes such as putting utilities underground and adding new street lights, park benches, trash receptacles, and street trees.  The plan also calls for more substantial changes such as widening the sidewalks and narrowing the main street, which is also a major highway, in an effort to calm traffic and to create a pedestrian friendly environment that is vital to the success of any downtown.  The plan incorporates new crosswalks and stoplights and signage that will further this effort and will also link the downtown to the nearby waterfront.  A new public pier, observation deck, and a new market place facility were designed for the waterfront to encourage activity from locals and to create retail opportunities on the water that will attract the hundreds of boaters who go through the dam each year.  Services also included feasibility and cost studies, preparation of marketing and presentation materials, presentation and facilitation at public hearings, and assisting with grant application processes.
