Shelton Residence

This lovely turreted 1902 Queen Anne home in the New Albany historic district in Decatur, Alabama had been added to some time in the early 1930s and renovated again in the eighties.  The main rooms of the original house had been well maintained, but the additions were done in a manner unsympathetic to the style of the house.  BPA began the program for this home by tearing down the walls until we were able to see the walls of the original house.  We gutted the renovation work of the eighties and began a journey to return the residence to its Queen Anne style.

BPA began the program for this home by adding a new kitchen and butler’s panty.  We designed a new garage as well as a new screened porch and spacious family room that open onto a courtyard.  The first floor addition allowed us to create a new master bath suite off the master bedroom on the second floor.  We created a curved gallery connecting the family room to the garage and added historically accurate elements and details to the addition to the residence.  The result is a modern day, functional family home that echoes its historic origin.
