Site Work & Gardens

This lovely garden lies within the heart of Huntsville Historic District.  The original owners had searched Huntsville’s Historic Districts for years to find a house to suit their needs and lifestyle.  They needed living quarters for a family of four, room for entertaining, guest quarters and a workshop space.  When they were unable to find anything existing that was an exact fit, they decided to get creative.  They bought three houses – one Victorian Cottage in the Twickenham District and two small bungalows in the Old Town district whose properties backup to it with the idea of combining the three into a single family residence.  Bill Peters Architects was hired to make it happen.

After major renovations and additions were made to all three houses, the greatest challenge we faced was linking them together in a way that was aesthetically pleasing and multifunctional.  Through a series of covered breezeways and paths, a driveway and carport, surrounding a circular pool, we created a space that would function as hallway, garden, entertainment pavilion and recreational space as well as serve the need for parking and storage.  We were eager to provide a sense of continuity to the three houses without following any one of them in architectural style.  The result is a space that is functional and beautiful, subtle yet substantial – that flows in a style that is thoroughly its own.
